What To Expect At Your Visit
Mind Over Matter Counseling Solutions is dedicated to making your experience as comfortable as possible. When you arrive, you will wait in the waiting area where you can help yourself to coffee or water while enjoying some soothing music. While waiting, you will likely complete some initial paperwork.
During the first visit with your therapist you can expect it to be informal, as this is a time get to know one another, ask questions and to gather some basic information. Research shows that building a strong, trusting rapport with your therapist removes potential barriers between a therapist and client, allows communication to be open, free flowing and honest resulting in the number one indicator of success when participating in therapy. Therefore, your therapist will most likely spend time getting to know you as a person, may share things about themselves that will assist you in relating to the them, as well as, share with you their qualifications, expertise and what techniques and/or modalities they practice. Be prepared to answer questions such as: What has brought you to therapy, what significant relationships exist in your life, what steps have you taken to resolve the issues and what are your expectations of therapy? This will also be a time for you to ask any questions or share any concerns that you may have. Then, if you both feel comfortable , you and your therapist will discuss a plan that works for both of you moving forward.
Mind Over Matter Counseling knows that one size doesn't fit all and are here to support you. In the event that the fit doesn't "feel right" that's okay, too. We would love the opportunity to introduce you to other members of our team, or would be happy to refer you to our community partners. Our goal is to get you the support you need and deserve, regardless of where.
